A two-part NPR radio series aired January 2006.
Description: We follow a Seattle man (John Schofield) before, during and after his DBS surgery, which took place in October of 2005. Surgeons say the same technology holds promise for treating conditions as diverse as depression and obesity.
Note: It has been 20 years since John had DBS Surgery.
You no longer need to be awake when they drill through the skull. Additional advancements in technology continue to provide more options for patients.
Please consult your neurologist, movement disorder specialist, and neurosurgeon to determine whether Deep Brain Stimulation is right for you.
